Our first pistol class is NRA Basic Pistol, planned for the weekend of December 5 at the Routt County Rifle Club. That date is tentative. It will be set here, and the pistol class list hears first.
What the class is
NRA Basic Pistol is the NRA’s own course, taught from the NRA lesson plan by an NRA Certified Pistol Instructor. It covers pistol knowledge and safe handling, ammunition, the fundamentals of shooting, shooting positions, and how to choose and look after a pistol. You finish with the NRA written exam and a shooting qualification on the range.
It runs about a day, classroom first and then the range. Exact times come with the date.
Seats are limited to keep the range line small.
Who teaches it
Jae Seifert, one of our three NRA Certified Pistol Instructors. Meet the instructors.
What to bring

Lunch is on us. Bring:
- A handgun, cased and unloaded, or use one of our loaners
- Factory ammunition, no reloads
- Eye and ear protection (we keep spares)
- Clothes for an outdoor range in December: layers, a hat, gloves you can shoot in
- Photo ID
No live ammunition in the classroom. Guns and ammunition stay cased in your vehicle until the range session.
Cost
The price is set when the date is.
Is this the SB25-003 course?
No. NRA Basic Pistol is a pistol skills course. The course Colorado requires before you buy a specified semiautomatic firearm is a separate class, the Colorado SSF safety course.
