Questions We Get
Is a Byrna legal in Colorado? Byrna says its launchers are legal in all 50 states, with some restrictions, and names none for Colorado. Inside Steamboat city limits, Municipal Code 10-166 bans firing any projectile from a firearm “or gas or mechanically operated gun” except in lawful defense of person or property. So: defense, yes; target practice in the back yard, no.
Will it stop a bear? Byrna itself recommends bear spray for bears, and so does Colorado Parks and Wildlife. Read our less-lethal guide for bears, the house, and the law.
Who can buy one? Anyone 18 or older, per Byrna. Pepper and MAX rounds can’t ship to some states (CA, NY, HI, MI, WI, MN); Colorado isn’t one of them.
