We’re putting together classes here in Routt County, so you don’t have to drive to the Front Range for them. Nothing is open for enrollment yet. This page is where dates will show up first.
Colorado SSF safety course (SB25-003)
Colorado now requires a Firearms Safety Course Eligibility Card and a safety course before you can buy a specified semiautomatic firearm (SSF), which covers many semi-automatic rifles, shotguns and pistols. The state calls it the Firearms Safety Program (FSP). The course is 4 hours if you hold a CPW hunter-education card and 12 hours, across at least two days, if you don’t. Either way you pass at 90%.
The nearest course is hours away on the Front Range. We’re working to bring one to Steamboat. We won’t announce a date until it’s real, and the interest list hears first.

Add your name and we’ll send you a plain-English walkthrough of getting your Eligibility Card, and tell you first when a local class has a date.
Pistol classes
Our staff recently completed NRA Pistol Instructor training. Our first pistol class is planned for the weekend of December 5. That date is tentative, and it will be listed here once it’s set.
