Most people who ask us about buying from out of state have one question: can I take it with me? The answer depends on what you’re buying and where you live, so here’s how it usually works.
Handguns
Federal law sends a handgun sold to a nonresident through a licensed dealer (FFL) in your home state. Pick it out here and we ship it to a dealer near you. You finish the paperwork and pick it up there.
Rifles and shotguns
Federal law allows an in-person long gun sale to a nonresident when it’s legal in both states. Every sale at our counter also goes through Colorado’s age, background check and waiting-period rules, so if you’re leaving town soon, shipping it home is usually the easier route.
Colorado’s newer rules for some semi-automatic firearms treat out-of-state buyers differently from residents. Ask us what applies to you before you pick one out.
Shipping it home
- Pick your dealer. Any FFL in your state that accepts transfers. We get their license on file before the gun ships.
- Your dealer may charge a transfer fee. Ask them what it is before you buy.
- We’ll quote shipping at the counter.
Ordering online
The whole site works the same way. Firearms ship to the FFL you choose at checkout. Gear ships to your door. Ammunition ships to an FFL in the states that require it. Magazines are checked against your state’s capacity limit at checkout, so an order that can’t go to your state stops there, before you pay.
