Elk River Guns is proud to partner with Routt County Public Health in a new community initiative to promote firearm safety and responsible gun storage throughout Routt County and Moffat County, Colorado. With funding from the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment’s Office of Gun Violence Prevention, free gun safes will be distributed to eligible residents at multiple events during June 2025.
As a trusted firearms retailer serving Steamboat Springs and surrounding areas, Elk River Guns remains committed to helping gun owners safely store their firearms to prevent accidents, reduce firearm-related injuries, and protect children and families across Northwest Colorado. Our team is honored to support this firearm safety program by helping select and provide high-quality gun safes for the community.

Eligible participants can receive one free safe per household, while supplies last. A variety of gun safe types will be available, including:
• Handgun lock boxes
• Biometric safes
• Rifle storage cases
Smaller safes will be distributed at select Farmers Market events, while larger gun safes can be reserved using vouchers provided at those events.
Residents can pick up a free gun safe at any of the following locations and times:
• June 13, 2025 — Routt County Community Room, 613 Oak Street, Steamboat Springs (12:00 PM – 3:00 PM)
• June 14, 2025 — Steamboat Springs Farmer’s Market (Vouchers Only, 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM)
• June 15, 2025 — Oak Creek Farmer’s Market (10:00 AM – 2:00 PM)
• June 26, 2025 — Hayden Farmer’s Market (5:00 PM – 8:00 PM)
Gun safe quantities are limited and will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis to Routt and Moffat County residents.
Safe firearm storage is one of the most effective ways to reduce the risk of accidental shootings, especially in homes with children. Locking up firearms can help prevent unintentional injuries, unauthorized access, and theft. Programs like this free gun safe giveaway help promote responsible gun ownership throughout Routt County and beyond.
